Data Protection

The Savonia University of Applied Sciences Student Union takes and will continue to take measures to protect the privacy of its members in accordance with both the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Finnish legislation. Member information is always processed and stored with great care. The data is secure, and we comply with the requirements of the GDPR and relevant legislation.

The Student Union’s right to process members’ personal data is based on the statutory obligations of the Student Union towards its members, as defined in the Finnish University of Applied Sciences Act (2014/932, § 41), the Associations Act (503/1989, § 11), and the Personal Data Act (523/1999, § 8). All processing of personal data is based on the consent provided by the member/data subject (GDPR, Article 6, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph a). We pay particular attention to ensuring that members/data subjects clearly understand what they are consenting to, or not consenting to.

GDPR stands for the EU General Data Protection Regulation. The regulation came into force on May 24, 2016, and became enforceable on May 25, 2018. As a result of the GDPR, the Student Union has created a more comprehensive data protection statement than the previous register description, detailing how, where, and on what grounds personal data is processed. A member/data subject has the right to review what information about them has been collected by the Student Union. A registered individual may also request the restriction, correction, or deletion of their personal data. The processing time for data protection-related requests is one (1) month from the receipt of the form or its arrival date.
