FSHS

The purpose of the FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service) is to provide student health services, as stipulated in the Health Care Act, for those studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at institution of higher education.

Student healthcare services include the following:

  • monitoring and promotion of students’ health and welfare and fitness to study
  • health checks according to individual needs
  • provision of health and medical care services
  • mental health and substance abuse services
  • promotion of sexual health
  • oral health care
  • early identification of any special needs and tests required by students, support, and, if necessary, referral for further tests or treatment
  • checks on health and safety aspects of the study environment in educational institutions and welfare promotion among learning communities, together with monitoring

How do I Book an Appointment With FSHS?

Appointments with FSHS services always require an assessment of care needs. During the care needs assessment, your situation will be evaluated, the urgency of the care will be assessed, and self-care instructions will be provided. Where is FSHS located?

FSHS in Kuopio

FSHS in Iisalmi

  • General and mental health services are provided by Pihlajalinna Iisalmi at Riistakatu 19
  • Oral health services are provided by PlusTerveys Iisalmen Hammas at Kirkkopuistonkatu 15
  • Pihlajalinna Iisalmi’s and PlusTerveys Iisalmen Hammas’ services can only be accessed by those students whose study town is Iisalmi.

FSHS in Varkaus

  • General and mental health services are provided by Pihlajalinna Varkaus at Pirnankatu 4
  • Oral health services are provided by Oral Hammaslääkärit Varkaus at Kauppakatu 11
  • Pihlajalinna Varkaus and Oral Varkaus services can only be used by those students’ whose study town is Varkaus.

The Healthcare Fee for students in higher education ?

The health care fee for students in higher education, paid to Kela, covers all FSHS services for students. Please remember that you must pay the health care fee to Kela for each semester unprompted. FSHS does not charge for other services or appointments, except a charge for an unattended appointment.

Please note, however, that if you are referred from FSHS to a specialist doctor/ specialized healthcare / services in your wellbeing services county, the service provider has the right to charge a visit fee according to its own price list.
