What is FSHS?
FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service) is a foundation currently providing health services to university students and students of science and arts universities. After the legal reform, starting from January 1, 2021, YTHS will also offer services to full-time students at universities of applied sciences (UAS) pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degrees.
Why FSHS?
The aim of the reform is to equalize the student health services for all higher education students. Until now, the healthcare services for university of applied sciences students were provided by municipalities in cooperation with educational institutions.
When to Go to FSHS?
The government proposal for the student healthcare law was approved by the Finnish Parliament on March 1, 2019, and the President confirmed the law on May 17, 2019. The law will come into effect on January 1, 2021. The data of university of applied sciences students will be transferred to FSHS on January 4, 2021. Services cannot be used before the data is transferred.

FSHS in Iisalmi
- General and mental health services are provided by Pihlajalinna at Riistakatu 19
- Oral health services are provided by Suomen Terveystalo Oy at Luuniemenkatu 3 A
FSHS in Varkaus
- General and mental health services are provided by Suomen Terveystalo Oy at Wredenkatu 2
- Oral health services are provided by Oral Varkaus at Ahlstöminkatu 22
- If necessary, you can make an appointment at another FSHS service point in another location during the booking process.
What Services does FSHS Offer to Students?
When the law reform comes into effect, FSHS will provide basic healthcare services, as well as more extensive mental health and dental services, to university of applied sciences students.
How do I Book an Appointment With FSHS?
University of applied sciences students can start booking appointments once their data is transferred to FSHS on January 4, 2021.
Appointments with FSHS services always require an assessment of care needs. During the care needs assessment, your situation will be evaluated, the urgency of the care will be assessed, and self-care instructions will be provided. The care needs assessment is conducted via SelfChat or by phone.

The health care fee in 2021 is €71.60 per year. There are no separate fees for services. The healthcare fee must be paid in two installments, with each semester’s payment being €35.80. The student is responsible for making the payment proactively.
